301: Moved Permanently (Redirect)
Description: Signals to the visitor the resource's URL has moved permanently from one URL to another
Implications:
- Bookmarked resources may automatically update the stored URL
- Search engines will update the URL of the resource and transfer any SEO ranking
Uses:
- Redirect from old domain to new
- Redirecting to an old more relevant article, page and resource while preserving existing SEO and backlinks
- Redirecting from non 'www' url's to 'www'
- Redirecting 'HTTP' url's to 'HTTPS'
