URL Encoder / Decoder

Percent-encode a value for a query string, or turn %20 style escapes back into readable text. Everything runs in your browser.

About

URLs can only contain a limited set of characters, so anything else has to be percent-encoded first. This tool encodes and decodes in your browser, which means the string you are working on, often a token or a signed link, never leaves the page.

How to use

  1. Paste the text or URL into the box.
  2. Choose encode or decode, and whether the whole URL or a single component.
  3. Copy the result.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the two modes?

Component mode encodes reserved characters such as slash and question mark, which is what you want for a value. Full URL mode leaves the structure of a URL intact so it still works as a link.

Why does a plus sign behave oddly?

In form submissions a plus means a space, but in a URL path it is a literal plus. That legacy difference is the usual reason a decoded string comes back with spaces where you expected plus signs.

Is the data sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs in JavaScript in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
